ABOUT US

BAYREP was founded in the Spring of 2003 and is no longer currently active. As of 2010, it had over 800 members representing individuals from many sectors of real estate, including Finance, Development, Law, Construction, Property and Asset Management, Architecture, Housing, Policy, Planning, Engineering, Tax, Audit, Consulting, Brokerage, Marketing, Corporate Real Estate, Insurance, and Valuation. 


PAST LEADERSHIP

Renu (Rain) Madan, Founder & Managing Member 2003-2007
Independent Consultant & Entrpreneur, Connected Housing | Rain founded BAYREP along with German Rojas and Kendra Stensven in the spring of 2003. At that time, she was at Ernst & Young in real estate consulting. She has also worked
as Project Manager at Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation, at Boston Capital, the U.U. Service Committee, Project Bread, and Citizens' Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA). Rain has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Real Estate Finance Association (REFA). She has a Masters in Urbanization and Housing from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a bachelor in Social Psychology from Harvard University Extension.

German Rojas, Founder & Former Managing Member 2003-2004
Associate, AIG Global Real Estate Investment Corp. | German concentrates in real estate transactions, asset management and development for the Latin America Group of AIG Global Real Estate (AIGGRE). Although AIG Global Real Estate Latin America is headquartered in Mexico City and San Francisco, German is based in New York City. Prior to joining AIGGRE, he was an Investment Analyst at KBS Realty Advisors a small real estate private equity fund working on real estate transactions and asset management in the North East region particularly New York and New Jersey. German holds a bachelor in architecture and a Masters degree in Architecture and Real Estate Development from Columbia University.

Kendra Stensven, Co-Founder and Former Managing Member 2004-2005
Project Manager, Jonathan Rose Companies, LLC | Kendra works with development partners to build green affordable housing in New York City and the metropolitan region. She recently completed an MS in Real Estate Development at Columbia University where she focused on responsible property investment and the greening of historic buildings. Prior to Columbia, Kendra spent five years in Boston working in real estate consulting and affordable housing development at Ernst & Young LLP and HallKeen LLC, respectively. In addition to the MS, Kendra holds a BBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specializing in Economics and Real Estate/Urban Land Economics.

Late Cliff Dowd, Managing Member 2006-2010
Assistant Vice President, AEW Capital Management, L.P. | Cliff became involved in BAYREP shortly after his move from San Francisco to Boston in 2003. He last worked in asset management at AEW, a real estate investment management firm. His past work experience included real estate appraisal, economic and fiscal impact analysis of real estate projects, development feasibility studies, public sector surplus land disposition, and military base conversion analysis. Cliff had a B.A. in Architecture and an MBA with a concentration in real estate from the University of California at Berkeley. Cliff is remembered with our deepest respect and love.

Meg Ounsworth Steere, Managing Member 2007-2010
Project Manager, Architectural Heritage Foundation | Meg works as a Project Manager for AHF, whose mission is to preserve historic structures through adaptive reuse. Current projects include the redevelopment of historic mill buildings in Lowell and Lawrence into residential units. Formerly a real estate consultant with Bonz and Company, Inc, Meg’s experience in fiscal impact analysis, market and feasibility studies for new development and redevelopment projects, and appraisal of residential and commercial properties lends itself well to Project Management responsibilities. Her past experience includes preparation of community development and open space and recreation plans for municipalities as well as research studies on planning, sustainable development, and smart growth initiatives. Meg holds a B.A degree from the University of Virginia and a Masters of Regional Planning degree with a focus on Community and Economic Development from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst.

Christina Shvartsman, Managing Member 2007-2010
Commercial Real Estate Associate, Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP | Christina concentrates her practice in all aspects of commercial real estate transactions including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, and leasing and zoning. Prior to joining Nutter, she was an associate at Posternak, Blankstein & Lund. While attending law school, Christina was a law clerk at MassHousing and at a boutique commercial real estate firm in Plymouth, Massachusetts. She also worked as a legal intern for the Honorable Bruce M. Selya for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office in Boston. Christina holds a bachelor of business administration degree cum laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a juris doctor from Northeastern University School of Law.

Nelson Hioe, Former Managing Member 2004-2005
Associate, The Blackstone Group – Blackstone Real Estate Advisors | Since joining Blackstone in 2006, Nelson has been involved in analyzing real estate investments in several types of properties. Before joining Blackstone, Nelson worked at The Community Builders, a residential development company, executing structured syndications of tax credits to institutional investors. Prior to that, he worked at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, performing strategic analyses on behalf of clients in a range of sectors. Nelson received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, cum laude, from Williams College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Sheena Gohil, Coordinating Member 2008-2010
Associate – Downtown Brokerage Group, Lincoln Property Company | Sheena joined BAYREP in a leadership capacity in 2007 after being a member for many years.  She currently works at Lincoln Property Company focusing her efforts on leasing and sales activities in Downtown Boston, primarily representing tenants in an advisory role and landlords in commercial real estate transactions. Sheena is a graduate of Boston University, and is actively involved in the real estate industry and her community in various leadership capacities.

Jeffrey Oakman, Coordinating Member 2008-2010
Associate – Recap Advisors, LLC | Jeffrey joined BAYREP’s leadership team in 2007 after moving to Boston from New York City.  His work at Recap Advisors, a financial services company specializing in affordable housing, includes advising housing owners and lenders on transaction structuring and providing policy analysis to public-sector clients.   Previously he spent three years at the NYC Economic Development Corporation managing development of city-owned property and leading community-based planning and development initiatives in the South Bronx, Queens, and Upper Manhattan.  Jeffrey has a BA from Rice University and a Masters in Public Affairs and Urban/Regional Planning from Princeton University.
